RSU Biology Club Takes Part in 11th Annual Kiddie Karnival

The annual Halloween fun and celebration festivities kicked off on the evening of Friday, October 24, 2014, with the 11th annual Kiddie Karnival.  The carnival is sponsored by RSU Student Government Association and was held at the Claremore Recreation Center.  RSU clubs and organizations were invited to host a booth at this event.  The fun and games were followed by the movie, "The Haunted Mansion", hosted by the City of Claremore.

The RSU Biology Club was in presence, in addition to several other organizations.  Creative members of the RSU Biology Club constructed a life size version of the popular game, "Operation"  The patient, portrayed as a skeleton, consisted of inventively fashioned human anatomy parts that included eyes, brain, heart, lung, stomach, kidney, flanges, femur, and nervous system.  The bones and organs portrayed realistic qualities.  The heart, constructed of balloons, contained four ventricles.  Game participants were quizzed on their human anatomy knowledge by having to identify where on the skeleton the part should be found.  Once participants answered correctly, a flap was raised, where the participants had the opportunity to see and feel human anatomy part models.  The RSU Biology Club students had a great time testing the kids knowledge of human anatomy; as well as, handing out candy, prizes, and anatomy coloring sheets.  The kids had a great time trying to determine and identify the correct human anatomy parts and were provided an opportunity to gain scientific experience.  One enthusiastic participant, in a soccer player costume, after playing the game one time, took a coloring sheet to "study" and returned, determined to identify all of the human anatomy pieces correctly!  Perhaps the clubs enthusiasm and knowledge will inspire children of the local community to learn more, and maybe even one day, attend RSU to become aspiring scientists!
